Every so often, that energy hits you.
It’s the same source of energy that will see me re-configuring the living room furniture and cleaning up all those under-the-sofa dust bunnies after 3 years of being completely content and okay with its first arrangement. It’s the energy that can compel me, in an uncharacteristically confident bout of resolve, to weed through my closet and separate the wearables from the hanger-holders — those difficult-to-face clothes that require me to admit that not only have my tastes changed, but my body has (and is) as well.
Friends, it was the same energy that saw me finally deleting scores of old and unread e-mails. The other day, I noticed that my unread e-mail count had climbed to over 4,400 messages. Yeah. This pretty shameful pile-up was an accretion of years of ignored and unaccounted for messages — account alerts, statements, purchase receipts, event announcements and invites, online deals. The whole mess of life. After an hour and a half of sorting and deleting, I had cut the thousands of unread messages down to zero. Now, my message count accurately reflects the number of new e-mails coming in. The energy behind this e-mail sweep came entirely unexpected. It was a bit ruthless. Very much slash and burn, but with a forward-looking eye towards a future that (hopefully) might be a little less cluttered, a little more focused.
In other words, it’s the energy of very much wanting a fresh start, and it’s showing up (often uninvited) in various domains of my life. Maybe these are various permutations of my desire for Spring to be here. This winter has been grueling!
So, in the spirit of making good with this energetic windfall, I’ve decided to perform a little bit of blog renovation. I have been thinking about the kinds of content I’d like to feature more often on this blog. And, I have been thinking about what new categories might serve this content better, as well as what new formats might be the best way to deliver it. In an unexpected turn, I decided to purchase a new domain name (!) to inaugurate the renovations, to reinforce my crafting commitment, and to remind myself of what motivates me to blog and share my making minutia. I hope that this act of (re-)naming will generate some fresh new directions!
So, thanks for bearing with over the next little while!
An excellent idea, Shirley! Sending you continued energy and inspiration for this new round of creativity! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! ~Melissa

I’m looking forward to seeing your blog in the future. All of your cleaning activity sounds like when I take cold medicine.

How will we find you? Will it auto-direct to new site? Or has it already? And how weird. I just culled my site putting some posts in the trash, and others into draft mode. This need to clean must be hitting us all.

Thanks for reading, Patsye! 🙂 Yes – the new domain auto-directs to the existing blog and the old content. Interesting to hear that the cleaning fairy has visited you, too! It’s a rare visitation, on my end, so I try to run with it. 😉

Oooh, exciting! I get hit by blog-spring-clean fever every once in a while too… Now you have me wondering if I need to have a tidyup as well! 😀 Good luck with your renovations, I’m looking forward to seeing your new-look blog!
(PS You probably know this already, but there are plugins you can get to display a “holding page” to visitors so you can carry on your site updates behind the scenes. I used “Coming soon page & maintenance mode” by SeedProd on my last renovation 🙂)

Blog-spring-clean fever – it’s exactly as you put it! It happens, right? I remember the renovating you did last year – it made your blog and online storefront even more gorgeous than they already were. I’m hoping to introduce some new sections and pages to the blog (their content is yet to be determined, ha!). That’s very interesting info about the holding page; I didn’t know about that. I will explore. Thank you! 🙂

Ooooooohhhhahhhhhh how exciting!! Your formatting (and especially photographs) are always impressively stunning – can’t wait to see more! Congrats on pulling the trigger on a domain – I think it’s a great step/solidifies the commitment. Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with! Nothing better than a makeover and a fresh start… now you’ve got me feeling a bit stale and it’s only February! 🙂

Aw, thanks Weekes! 🙂 I’m not yet sure what to do, but I thought I’d proceed in my usual slow way and tinker here and there. 🙂 And I absolutely love your site’s set-up – it’s adventurous, fun, and original, in addition to being so well-designed with beautiful visuals! Looking forward to more vlogging and/or wordz!

Awww that is so nice of you to say, thank you! I did a total makeover a couple months in and then haven’t touched it too much since, but I’m fairly happy with the aesthetic if not totally settled on the content. And yes, there will be some wize Valentine wordz this week(e) (ugh, I’m so lame!) 🙂

You are so brave, and this is so inspiring ! I’ve been wanting to do some clean-up on my blog too, but I have yet to find that burst of energy you describe so well. Kudos on cleaning your inbox: that’s an impressive task in itself. Really looking forward to the new version of your space, and hope it will inspire me to do the same.

Thanks, Agnès. 🙂 For me, that burst is quite rare, so I try to go with it when it comes, lol. Thank you for reading. Here’s to hoping that the sunshine comes back soon, and that Spring will be sooner around the corner than later! 🙂 Looking forward to hearing about your current projects, too! 🙂

Ha! Well, I tried to be gentle and used the broom in stead of the vacuum. I hope they don’t mind! Thanks, as always, Tierney, for reading! 😀
